Q: Where did you learn to draw?

A: I’m self-taught, mostly. I took high school classes and am in college for it, but no one ever
took me by the hand and said, “I’m going to show you how to draw a dragon-headed horse
today!” My animals inspire me, in personality and by providing live models, and so do others’
visions, like animated movies, comics, and most of all, books.

Q: What do you use to color your pictures?

A: Adobe Photoshop 7.0, Adobe Streamline 4.0, a Wacom Tablet, and an HP Scanjet 4070
Scanner.

Q: Do you do art trades/commissions?

A: I rarely, if ever, do art trades. An artist with good style and talent might catch my attention,
but usually they’re just as busy as me. Commissions I do: $40 for ink, $60 for color, basic 8 x 11
size. Anything larger the prices change; any prices less isn’t worth my time.

Q: Are you ever going to have a tutorial up about your own technique?

A: I do. How I color (currently) from pencil sketch to completed digital piece, can be found at the
"Tutorials" link. My technique is always changing, because even after 5 years, Photoshop still has
more to offer.

Q: May I use some of your art?

A: No. Not ever. There are too many horror stories about art theft on the Net, so I don’t want
to invite it. Don’t copy, cut paste, alter, or distribute any of the graphics on the this website,
except the banners.

Q: Do you have a banner?

A: Yes, they are available on my "Links" page. Those you can save. No hotlinking.

Q: How do I contact you?

A: You can email me at Garrick40@hotmail.com. I check it every day.

Q: Is this site built around a book?

A: Yes, a trilogy, in fact. The first book is The Bronze Key, which is around 122,000 words. The
other two are in the works.

Q: What genre is it?

A: Fantasy, obviously. I would classify it as a young-adult anthropomorphic fantasy, like
Redwall and Watership Down.

Q: When is it going to be available?

A: I don’t know. The book is currently being presented to a number of agents. I do not wish to
self-publish, nor do I have the money to do so, so I’m in the thick of it. I have great faith in my
critique group and writer’s league to make it the best story it can be.

Q: How long did writing the story take you?

A: From its initial conception, The Bronze Key has undergone four drafts and five years. The
third draft was the first one with a beginning and an end, actually completed in eight months, left
alone for a year, and revised again.

Q: Where do you come up with your ideas?

A: The eternal question. Ideas come from everywhere, and I firmly believe that if you don’t have
ideas, you aren’t exposing yourself to enough creative outlets. Watch movies, play video games,
and most of all for writers: read! Writers are readers moved to emulsion. For Bronze Key, I was
influenced by Final Fantasy video games, Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, and Brian
Jacques’ Redwall series. I love the ancient Latin tongue, which is used rather obviously in names
and titles throughout the book. I also like any excuse to draw crazy monsters, so the Abnepos
were a perfect concept.

Q: Why are there anthros/furries in it?

A: I could be artsy, and say Aesop used animals in his stories, because it was easier for his
audience to connect to and learn from them. But, I wanted animals because I like drawing animals,
and if the characters were human they wouldn’t have interested me as much. I did because it was
my story. Whatever the furry fandom is, I don’t consider myself or my story a brainchild of it.
